As we move into the second half of the year, it’s a moment to reflect — and refocus. In July, we’ve been sharpening stories, watching global signals, and welcoming fresh thinking into the fold. This edition brings you a proper recap of what we’ve been saying online, a closer look at how international politics could ripple into local wine strategy, and a look ahead at what’s coming next. Let’s keep building the kind of impact that lasts — in brand, in market, and in mindset. |

“I thought to update you of my movements since leaving Alvi's Drift and where i have gone. I’ve always believed South African wine has something truly special to offer the world — not just in quality, but in character, authenticity, and in the stories we’ve yet to fully tell.
In the short time I’ve been with Golden Ratio, I’ve had the privilege of joining a team of sharp, forward-thinking individuals who are shifting the conversation around South African wine. These aren’t just colleagues — they’re passionate changemakers with a deep commitment to impact. It’s been energising to build something meaningful alongside them.
Even more exciting is the trust we’ve already received from iconic South African wine brands. It’s a genuine honour — and one I don’t take lightly — to work with producers who recognise the need for change and are bold enough to pursue it.
After years in the wine world — from the cellar floor to sales, exports, key accounts, and brand building both locally and abroad — I’ve come to understand that sales is about far more than selling. It’s about alignment. Quality wine is just the start. For a brand to truly thrive, it must have:
When these elements fall out of sync, brands lose their edge. They’re pulled into a race to the bottom — price wars, mixed messages, and a diluted category identity.
That’s why I believe the solution isn’t a single rockstar salesperson, winemaker, or creative agency. It’s synergy. When wine style, story, product offering, and market fit align, something remarkable happens: brands grow. Not by fighting over the same slice, but by confidently claiming their own space.
That’s the space we’re building at Golden Ratio — together. A space where South African wine isn’t just recognised, but respected. Where value is fairly earned, and where growth is intentional, long-term, and shared.
It’s early days, but the momentum is real — and I can’t wait to see what we’ll achieve.”

June in Review — Trends, Grapes & Global Thinking |
|
In June, we celebrated varietals, honoured legacy, and spotlighted strategy — all with one goal: to help brands in the wine world communicate with purpose. Here's what shaped our conversation last month: |
|
🍷 International Sommelier Day & Chenin Blanc Day We saluted South Africa’s “Golden Grape” — Chenin Blanc — and recognised the critical role sommeliers play in connecting wine to audience. 🎓 Youth Day Reflections We honoured the bravery of 1976 and turned the lens forward — to the next generation of winemakers, storytellers, and brand leaders shaping South Africa’s wine future |
|
🇬🇧 English Wine Week We unpacked the underdog success story of English wine — and what South African producers can learn about cool climate advantage, regional storytelling, and government-backed growth.
💬 Founder Insight "Good wine is crafted in the cellar. Great wine brands are crafted in the strategy room." — A reminder that intention needs communication, not just craftsmanship. |
|
📈 U.S. Wine Market Watch WOSA-USA reports rising demand for SA wine — but that interest must be met with clear storytelling, strategic branding, and cultural connection. 🌹 (Another) International Rosé Day We kept it light — but on-brand. Because every pink pour deserves a purpose. Follow us on Social Media for weekly tips and marketing moves that work. |
